You lay your artwork on the counter, then select from an array of mat corners and place it over the picture. Generally you will want to select a mat color based on a prominent color of the picture. Next, you will choose a frame corner to match the general tone and mood of the artwork. The frame selection will also be influenced by the ambiance of the room where it will ultimately reside.

The Mat Picker is a self-contained Java applet that runs on any Java-enabled web browser. It comes pre-loaded with 160 standard Bainbridge Alphamat Artcare mats and accepts up to 16 frames for display. In addition to the frame selection, the Mat Picker accepts a relative URL for the image to display and the default mat and frame that is initially presented. The background color is also selectable.

The Mat Picker comes in two versions, one for horizontal (or landscape) images and one for vertical (or portrait) images. To use, simply click anywhere on the displayed artwork image to automatically choose the nearest mat, or select a mat color directly by clicking on the color bar. The '+' and '-' buttons at the ends of the color bar allow you to scan through other mats of similar hue.
